To say Alvaro Morata has had a torrid time at Chelsea would be an understatement as the Spaniard has never been able to build on his initial good performances after joining back in the summer of 2017. Since the start of last year, the rumour mill has been relentless in linking the luckless Spaniard with a move away from Stamford Bridge and while most of these potential destinations have been in his wife’s native country of Italy, a new possibility has materialized.

Spanish side Sevilla FC have emerged as potential suitors to end Morata’s ‘personal hell’ in England by offering him a way out on an initial 6 month loan deal with an option to buy (there hasn’t been any word on how high said option would be as of yet, though), according to local Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo. Morata has always been rumoured to be unhappy in the UK and a move back to his beloved Spain does seem like a very good choice for the former Real Madrid man.

Sevilla currently sit in third in La Liga and the three time Europa League winner is desperate to secure Champions League football for next season. As a result, the Spanish side see Morata as the perfect big name signing to bolster their attacking force despite already being able to call upon the services of Wissam Ben Yedder and André Silva, both having been in fine scoring form this season. Whether Morata can actually provide Sevilla with the kind of additional firepower they’re expecting remains to be seen, but that wouldn’t be any of Chelsea’s concern anymore.

Unfortunately, there are some factors which could prove to be a stumbling block in completing any such deal as Morata’s high wages of approximately
£140,000 per week would almost certainly be too high for the Spanish side. Chelsea may decide to pay a certain amount of them but there nevertheless remains the problem who the Blues would bring in to replace Morata as he’s currently one of only two options at centre-forward. If a replacement isn’t found in the next few weeks then this move would almost certainly collapse, an outcome that both sides will want to prevent. Get on it, Marina, there’s no time to lose!
