This weekend sees the battle of the two London teams. 4th place Chelsea will take on 5th place Arsenal in the Premier League.  Ahead of this weekend’s game let’s take a look at the Arsenal VS Chelsea recent history.

The Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry isn’t as big as the rivalry Chelsea have with Tottenham Hotspur. However, there is still a divide between the two teams. It’s very much North London VS South West London. This is a London derby that many Chelsea fans look forward to every season and it’s definitely a date they mark on their calendar’s.

Although both teams hold a lot of silver ware in their trophy cabinets Chelsea fans still seem to have the upper hand over the gooners. Arsenal may have a bigger stadium and have won more Premier League trophy’s than the Blues but Chelsea are the only team in London with a European cup. This is something that Chelsea fans hold a lot of pride in and you will always here it being sung during big London derby clashes.

The rivalry between Arsenal and Chelsea fans was especially on display when Cesc Fabregas signed for Chelsea in 2014. The Spaniard used to play for Arsenal between 2003-2011 so when he suddenly went to Chelsea it wasn’t something Arsenal fans took lightly.

Something that Chelsea fans never really thought they would see was Petr Cech wearing an Arsenal shirt. After departing from the Blues in 2015 the Chelsea legend moved onto our London rivals as the new first team goal keeper. Although it hurt Chelsea fans to see him wearing that Gunners kit, we knew it was the best thing for him as he wouldn’t have got first team football at Chelsea. Thibaut Courtois came in and took the reins and that was when Cech moved onto the North London side.

Chelsea also beat Arsenal 6-0 at Stamford Bridge in March 2014. That memory will live on in Chelsea fans minds for a very long time. Arsenal fans on the other hand will not forget that game in a hurry as it was Arsene Wenger’s 1000th game in charge of the reds and what a painful defeat it must have been.

Also, in October 2014 there was a big bust up on the touchline between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. The ongoing feud between the managers especially got heated during this game as both managers went head to head. Jose Mourinho is known as a fiery character and he especially got fiery during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Arsenal. They were stood in their boxes and after a brawl they had to be spilt up.

Another special memory was a beautiful goal from the Belgium wizard himself Eden Hazard. He scored a screamer against Arsenal in 2017. It was a goal Chelsea fans will not forget any time soon.  Hazard sprinted past so many Arsenal players and fired the ball into the bottom of the net. He made it look easy and it was a truly breath-taking goal for everyone to witness.

The tension has risen even more this season as both teams battle it out for that all-important Champions League spot. Seen as though Arsenal have never won a European trophy before this is very important to them.

Something that makes the rivalry so big between the two teams is the push to be the best. Every game that the two teams meet in matters. The pride and dignity of both teams is always on the line in the clashes.

So, will London be made red or blue this weekend?
