Chelsea are close to securing the signing of Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus on an initial 6 month loan, with an option to extend that loan, and then an option to buy (based on performance).

Various reports from Italy claim that the Argentine is due in London today to partake in the medical, and sign the contract.

Chelsea initially were keen to get the striker registered to be able to play against Arsenal on Saturday. At the time of writing, he has about a 50% chance of being eligible to feature in that match. Chelsea must get him registered by 12pm today. That doesn’t mean announced, that means registered as a Chelsea player.

They could well do this without it being announced, but he has to pass that medical first.

If Chelsea fail to get the deal done today (there are reports that AC Milan want a replacement deal done first), then Chelsea will have until 12pm on Monday to register Higuain in time for the League Cup Semi Final Second Leg against Tottenham on Thursday.

But the general word is that Higuain will take his medical today, and his brother is also London bound in order to finish off the administrative side of the personal terms, that have already been agreed.

Alvaro Morata has agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid, and waits in the wings to complete his deal. The domino affect is expected to happen anytime now.

On a personal note, if Higuain isn’t registered by 12pm today, then it’s not an issue. He would have only started as a substitute anyway, and this will give him more preparation time, allow him to settle a little, meet team mates, and be fully ready for the Spurs match.
