Maurizio Sarri’s ‘’unmotivated’’ Chelsea side faced another setback as London rivals Arsenal beat them 2-0 at the Emirates.
Yesterday Chelsea’s top four hopes got knocked again after suffering a defeat by the Gunners. Sarri’s side failed to break down Arsenal and were unable to net a goal. This lack lustre performance highlighted to Chelsea fans how bad things really are at the moment.
The team line up came out an hour before kick off yesterday as it always usually does. Chelsea fans automatically knew when the team was announced that it wasn’t going to be their day. Sarri decided to not start a striker. The Chelsea manager decided to go with a false nine forcing Eden Hazard to play upfront. Once again it was clear to see that the world class Belgian’s talent was wasted and he didn’t perform to the best of his ability due to his position. If he had played in midfield the game may have gone a lot differently. Chelsea lacked a clinical point in the game yesterday. Olivier Giroud could have been the answer to a few of Chelsea’s problems.
It caught a lot of people by surprise when Sarri didn’t even make any changes at half time. Some could say that his stubborn attitude was shining through at that point. Surely when your team is 2-0 down at half time and away from home you would make some changes. However, it took a while for him to make substitutes and when he did it was way to late. The substitutes he made didn’t make an impact that late on in the game.
The question is does Sarri have a plan b?
The future is worrying. Sometimes as a fan you can accept a loss and hope your team sorts it out moving forward into the next game. However, the worry is that Chelsea have such a lethargic attitude at the moment that it is going to take a while to sort the issue out.
On Thursday night we take on Tottenham in the second leg of the Football League cup which the Blues are already 1-0 down in. It is absolutely vital that Sarri picks the right team to play and that they have their heads in the game. If they play like they did yesterday against 5th place Arsenal they will simply get knocked out and that will be another miss out on silver ware.
Many Chelsea fans are just praying for the signing of Gonzalo Higuaín to go through quickly so that he can play against Spurs. However, it is a worrying prospect when fans are having to rely on a player to come in from another team to solve all the issues. Chelsea has got some world class players yet they are still failing to deliver passionate football.
If players like John Terry and Frank Lampard were at the club, they wouldn’t have let this happen. Chelsea are clearly lacking leadership and that one player to wake the team up on the field when things are going wrong. It is clear that the ambition and attitude of the team isn’t right at the moment and that is why the future is so worrying.

Chelsea need a wake-up call and at this moment in time it isn’t clear what that is going to be.
