At the time of writing this piece, Chelsea are in the final stages of signing Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season.

Higuain is proven at the highest level, He’s scored goals consistently throughout his career and if he does well for the rest of the season, I can see him staying for next season.

In this article I’m going to look at some realistic options available to Chelsea in the summer as it seems everyone’s ‘Dream Buy’ including mine Mauro Icardi seems likely to sign a new contract at Inter Milan.

Luka Jovic:

Luka is a Serbian born Striker currently on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from parent club Benfica. It’s reported Jovic has a €40 million release clause.

Jovic has scored 17 goals in 23 games in the Bundesliga this season. Jovic has great movement off the ball and he possesses great link up play and is a good finisher. These key attributes make Jovic a good fit for any Sarri managed team.

Timo Werner:

Timo plays for RB Leipzig and had 13 goals in 21 games so far this season.

Timo has pace to burn. He’s a very good team player, he links the play very well and drifts out to the channels creating space in the middle for midfielders to infiltrate. Timo is a good finisher who is destined for a big move away from Leipzig in the summer.

Timo would be a good fit for Chelsea with his great link up play and accomplished finishing. He would flourish in this current Chelsea squad.

Maxi Gomez:

Maxi Gomez currently plays for Celta Vigo where he has 8 goals in 16 games.

Maxi is a strong aggressive Striker who has an eye for goal. Maxi is good in the air and good with both feet. Maxi is a perfect target man who reminds me of Diego Costa and would add some much needed ‘Bite’ and leadership to this current Chelsea squad.

I feel Maxi Gonez would thrive at Chelsea and he would be an undoubted fans faviroute.

Duvan Zapata:

Duvan is currently on loan at Atlanta from parent club Sampdoria.

Duvan is very powerful with plenty of pace and an eye for goal. Some have likened him to a early Didier Drogba which I completely agree with.

Zapata has a lot of attributes which would make him very popular with Chelsea supporters and make him a nightmare for opposition defenders. But Zapata has a huge amount to learn he’s still very raw. He’s unpredictable to watch.

If Duvan Zapata turns out half the player Didier Drogba was, we would have a very good player on our hands.

These are just some options in my humble opinion which make sense for the club to look at in the summer. They are realistic options at the time of writing and I feel all of them bring something to the table. If I was making the decision Luka Jovic or Timo Werner are the options I like most for Chelsea.

However I would like to see us sign Maxi Gomez or Duvan Zapata as we will need competition for places, with the inevitable departure of Giroud in the summer and with Higuain only on loan till the end of the season.
