Chelsea Assistant Head Coach Gianfranco Zola has today confirmed that midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has returned to full training, after recovering from a back injury.
The 23-year old England international has been suffering with a reoccurring injury to his back, and had taken some extra time to allow it to heal. Initially it was reported that we wouldn’t be seeing the academy starlet again until at least the beginning of February.
But now Zola confirms that he may even be in contention to face Sheffield Wednesday this Sunday in the FA Cup.
This is great news for Chelsea fans, who have seen their side struggle to break teams down in recent matches, and Loftus-Cheek provides that extra bit of creativity and flair needed that’s been missing.
I believe this is massive news for Sarri and his staff. Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic have both been lacking what has been needed to help get us more goals, and Ruben possesses those missing traits.
I believe he is more than capable of going ahead and nailing down that left centre midfield spot as his own for the rest of this season. He definitely provides us with the most goal threat and creativity – which is what is needed to thrive in that position.
