I conducted a poll on Twitter some few months back in order to gauge who the supporters believed was our best centre back pairing.

David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger came out on top, with Head Coach Maurizio Sarri agreeing with the general consensus, and opting to pick those two consistently as his main starters.

This had raised some frustrations from Andreas Christensen, who has just admitted that he considered leaving the club in January, due to not being a main starter.

Chelsea hierarchy managed to change his mind on the matter and offered him reassurances of his importance to the club, fending off interest from many of the big sides including Barcelona.

Christensen has admitted he is now happy at the club and willing to fight for his place.

In the last two months, the Danish International has been putting in more confident performances when given the chance, but is still yet to fully oust Luiz or Rudiger ahead of him.

I was interested to see if the fan view was still the same, so over the weekend I ran the same poll again.

Out of 7,500 Chelsea supporters who voted, there were two clear winners here. This time it wasn’t David Luiz.

Antonio Rudiger was voted the best current centre back with 43% of the votes. Very closely followed by Andreas Christensen with 37%. Luiz has found himself left way behind now with just 12% of the votes.

At the age of 22, I believe now is the time to show complete faith in the Chelsea academy starlet and give him that starting role at the back. He has done enough to convince myself, and the supporters to believe his time is now.
