As we build up to the match it’s the perfect opportunity to revisit this classic Division 2 encounter which took place on Saturday 8th October 1983. There’s been many classic encounters with our neighbours over the years but this is the one that stands out.

The second half was just as thrilling as Pat Nevin scored from close range shortly after half time to put Chelsea 3-2 up. Colin Lee soon made it 4-2 when slipping the ball past the goalkeeper after clever play from Pat Nevin. Davies scored a header at the far post to complete his hattrick for Fulham which gave them hope. It was however to be Kerry Dixon to get the final goal of the match with some great trickery in front of the jubilant Chelsea fans behind the goal. Chelsea won this classic encounter 5-3!
