ON THIS DAY IN 2006: CHELSEA 3-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

On this day thirteen years ago Chelsea needed a point to clinch the Premier League title at home to Manchester United. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge that day was electrifying and there was a feeling of optimism that Chelsea were on their way to back to back Premier League titles.

Cech, Gallas, Carvalho, Terry, Ferreria, Makelele, Essien, Lampard, J.Cole, Robben, Drogba

Result:

Chelsea 3-0 Manchester United

Chelsea Goals:

Gallas (5), J.Cole (61), Carvalho (73)

Attendance: 42,182

The Game:

It was William Gallas who settled the Chelsea nerves with a close range header off a corner after just 5 minutes.

Joe Cole scored a superb individual goal on 61 minutes after turning Rio Ferdinand and then side footing the ball into the top corner.

The title was secured on 73 minutes when defender Ricardo Carvalho carried on his run and received the ball back again and smashed it home. 3-0!!!!!!

The title would remain at Stamford Bridge for another season. What a truly fantastic day!
