REWIND: ON THIS DAY IN 2010, F.A CUP FINAL, CHELSEA 1-0 PORTSMOUTH

Chelsea had already wrapped up the Premier League title the week before with an emphatic 8-0 last day victory over Wigan Athletic. Chelsea were hoping to finish the season by winning ‘the double’ for the first time in their history. Portsmouth had been relegated from the Premier League a month before.

We were odds on favourites for the cup but that sometimes makes you even more nervous for the final!

Result:

Chelsea 1-0 Portsmouth

56 minutes: Juliano Belletti brings down Portsmouth’s Aruna Dindane in the penalty area. Kevin-Prince Boateng’s lacklustre penalty is saved by Petr Cech.

59 minutes: Didier Drogba makes it 1-0 with a clever free kick from outside the box which goes in in off the post.

88 minutes: Chelsea were awarded a penalty when Frank Lampard was fouled in box by Michael Brown. Lampard stepped up and put the ball wide which was very out of character from him.

It didn’t matter and Chelsea held on to win the F.A Cup! It was ‘The Double’ for Chelsea! Another memorable ‘Blue Day’ at Wembley Stadium!
