The Blues confirm their fourth match of the 2019-20 pre-season campaign

Chelsea today announced that they will be playing their first friendly in England this summer as they face the EFL Championship side Reading.

The Blues will play in their fourth friendly of the 2019-2020 pre-season campaign against the former Premier League side at the Madejski Stadium on 28th July, which has a capacity of just over 24,000.

Reading finished 20th in the Championship last season, seven points above the relegation zone.

Chelsea last played away at Reading in January 2013 in the 2012-13 Premier League season, with the match ending 2-2. Juan Mata and Frank Lampard put the Blues into a 2-0 lead but Reading substitute Adam Le Fondre scored twice late on, the equaliser coming in the sixth minute of added time.

Chelsea also previously won there when paying Premier League visits in 2006 and 2007, and in the League Cup when we played there in 2003.

The match against Reading will be an interesting test for the Blues this summer to go along with facing J-League champions Kawasaki Frontale and La Liga champions Barcelona, both in Japan as part of the ‘Far East’ portion of the pre-season as well as the Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg in Austria.

The schedule so far for the 2019-20 pre-season campaign is as follows:

19th July vs. Kawasaki Frontale (Nissan Stadium – Yokohama, Japan)
23rd July vs. FC Barcelona (Saitama Stadium – Saitama, Japan)
28th July vs. Reading (Madejski Stadium – Reading, England)
31st July vs. RB Salzburg (Red Bull Arena – Salzburg, Austria)
