Chelsea will consider offers for full back Davide Zappacosta, with Roma showing the most interest at this moment.
This is according to various news outlets in Italy, the latest via a report from Calciomercato.
Davide Zappacosta signed in the summer transfer window of 2017 on deadline day from Torino, for a fee around £23 million plus add ons.
The right backs contract expires in 2021, but Chelsea may be looking to cash in now, as this move hasn’t really worked for either parties, and the Italian has grown frustrated at his bit part role.
He was Antonio Conte’s signing, and the Italian boss had high hopes for the fullback after using him in the Italian national side.
However his Chelsea career hasn’t really dazzled in the way that the Italian fullback would have wanted.
He has only made 26 appearances in the Premier League over two seasons, and many of those appearances have come from the bench.
The Italian has scored one goal in the Premier League, and has only one Premier League assist to his name. And as a defender, he only has four clean sheets registered to his name.
Most of the Italian’s game time has come under Antonio Conte. Maurizio Sarri always opted for Cesar Azpilicueta as his right back, with Davide being back up.
And as a result, most of Zappacosta’s appearances last season came in the Europa League.
If Chelsea were to sell Zappacosta this summer, they would have to take a loss in the transfer fee. Zappacosta is valued at around £15 million pounds by transfermarkt.com . This means they would take a loss of around £8 million pounds, as they paid £23 million pounds to buy the fullback from Torino two seasons ago.
Where is he most likely to end up?
Roma are the latest Italian club to show interest in the fullback.
However Inter Milan have also been linked to Zappacosta in the past, and with Antonio Conte as their manager, I can see them making a move to bring Davide back to Serie A.
And Lazio have been linked to making a move for Zappacosta
But all Italian clubs will have to up their interest quickly as Roma look to be leading the race at this moment in time.
But I do expect to see him leave Chelsea this summer, for a return to Italy and Serie A. What club is still unknown.
If he does leave Chelsea this summer, then his best memory I have of him in a Chelsea shirt was when he scored that screamer in one of his first games in the Champions League in the 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag at Stamford Bridge.
What does this transfer mean for Chelsea if it were to happen?
Selling Zappacosta would mean that the two right back options with a transfer ban next year will definitely be Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James.
Comment down below what you make of Zappacosta potentially leaving the club this summer. Do you think Chelsea should let him go with a transfer ban?
