With the news that Chelsea are poised to sign Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal from Real Madrid for around £45 million, I look at why the Croatian midfielder deserves a second chance to prove himself.
Kovacic, 25, spent last season at the Blues and made over 50 appearances in all competitions.
The reason why he has suffered alot of criticism from most fans including myself, is due to his attacking threat.
He didn’t score a goal, and only gained two assists.
But we have to remember that he has had some good games for the club- including his performance in the Europa League final against Arsenal.
But there is a considerable amount of negativity around the fanbase about signing the of the Croatian midfielder on a permanent basis.
But i’m here to state why this move can be a good move for Chelsea and why he deserves a second chance.
- He already has one year of Premier League experience under his belt.
- With the long-term injury of Loftus-Cheek, keeping Kovacic is necessary for depth.
- He didn’t suit Sarri’s system- The Croatian deserves a chance in a Lampard/new manager system.
- He needs to be played in a deeper role- Under Sarri, Kovacic played as one of the more advanced midfielders. This meant that he had to be an attacking outlet. And that’s where he struggled. The solution- play him in his preferred and better position (deep role).
Overall the jury is still out with Kovacic, but he definitely deserves a second chance- like Salah would say!
I think we will see better performances from him next season, as he should have adapted to the Premier League now. And if Lampard plays him in his preferred position (in a deep role), then I reckon we will see a better Kovacic.
Comment down below- Do you think Kovacic deserves a second chance at Chelsea, and are Chelsea right to sign him on a permanent deal for around £45 million from Real Madrid?
