As we embark on a new pre season and new era at Chelsea the club officially announced today that we will now say goodbye to a few players whose contracts have officially ended. Most notably on this list was Gary Cahill.

A £7m signing from Bolton Wanderers in the January of 2012 was an absolute snip!

Gary has been a very big part of Chelsea’s success over recent years and that should never be overlooked. A great professional who has always given 100% for the club.

Gary Cahill’s Chelsea Honours:

Fans should also remember Gary played a vital part in that special Champions League Final win in Munich in 2012 and in John Terry’s final season in 2016/17 Gary captained the team on the pitch for the that title winning season.

Sometimes I feel fans are too quick to compare players to the likes of Cech, A.Cole, Terry, Lampard and Drogba. I think this is somewhat unfair at times as these were the very best we’ve had and will probably ever have. However, when we eventually look back there’s no doubt Cahill has to be spoken about in one of the most successful ever periods for the club.

I do feel it’s the right time for him to leave now and I wish him well in what he decides to do next. I’m not quite sure why but I always felt Gary has never been given the credit he fully deserves.

Thank you for everything Gary Cahill, you’ve won it all!
