All the latest news in the first few hours of the new campaign

Today is July 1st and football clubs across England that usually means the start of a brand new season.

Clubs up and down the country start to report back to training this week, get pre-season underway and use the next few weeks as preparations for the upcoming 2019-20 season. And that is no different for Chelsea.

That’s not all. We’ve also had players leaving, players signing new deals and developments on a certain ‘managerial vacancy’.

With all the news that has come just today, I’ve decided to put it altogether in one informative article for all Chelsea fans to keep up-to-date on all things Chelsea.

First up…

Ah, the question that has been asked what feels like a million times just to me alone via social media in the last few days alone. I’ve always believed the deal to have been ‘done’ besides a few formalities from both Lampard and Chelsea.

And those final few minor details appear to have now been sorted as reports as we speak are flying around that Lampard has finally signed his deal to officially become the new manager, replacing Maurizio Sarri.

Whilst not officially announced yet by Chelsea themselves, it is expected that our all-time top goalscorer has signed a three-year deal and will bring his entire backroom staff that he had at Derby County with him, which includes the likes of Jody Morris, Chris Jones and Shay Given.

PR/Media announcements are being prepped, along with a ‘welcoming video’ and more too.

It looks like Lampard is finally coming back home, just in time for pre-season to begin at Cobham.

Speaking of pre-season…

As reported last week, players representing the first-team, development and youth squads was supposed to report back to Cobham today to begin pre-season training.

But it was revealed today that first-team players will now begin their pre-season on Friday (July 5th) and not today. It appears the club will wait until Frank Lampard is officially the new manager before starting pre-season preparations, with the first match against Bohemians on July 10th. The full pre-season schedule can be found here, which includes all seven pre-season games.

Like any new season, the inevitable scenario of players coming in, players signing new deals and also saying goodbye to others on July 1st is very typical nowadays.

And it’s no different for the blues, even with the current FIFA-imposed transfer ban in place as it has finally been made official (despite the ‘accidental’ announcement at the weekend) that Mateo Kovačić is now a permanent member of the Chelsea first-team squad.

The Croatian has completed his much-anticipated move from Real Madrid for £40.3m, with the midfielder signing a five-year deal which keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2024.

As Kovacic makes his stay at Chelsea permanent, others within the first-team are moving on. Gonzalo Higuaín’s loan spell has ended and has left Chelsea. Gary Cahill, Rob Green, Eduardo & Kyle Scott have also all left the club after their contracts expired last night.

Tomáš Kalas – like Jay Dasilva last week – is also expected to finalise his move to EFL Championship side Bristol City, becoming their record signing (£8m).

Within the club, the following players have also left the club. Those are:

• Todd Kane
• Ruben Sammut
• Marcin Bułka
• Joseph Colley
• Renedi Masampu
• Josimar Quintero
• Martell Taylor-Crossdale
• Jared Thompson
• Bradley Collins
• Fanktay Dabo
• Victorien Angban

At the academy – youngsters Juan Castillo, George McEachran, Tariq Uwakwe and Sam McClelland have all signed new contracts at the club ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Castillo, McEachran and Uwakwe all signed new three-year deals, whilst McClelland signed his first professional contract with the club.

Elsewhere within the academy – twelve new scholars have arrived at Cobham, becoming the class of 2019. The following scholars are:

• Lucas Bergström
• Lewis Bate
• Josh Brooking
• Levi Colwill
• Ben Elliott
• Joe Haigh
• Bashir Humphreys
• Valentino Livramento
• Myles Peart-Harris
• Dion Rankine
• Xavier Simons
• Charlie Wiggett

With all the comings and goings at the club becoming ‘official’ today, these are (at the time of writing) the latest transfer dealings:

• Mateo Kovačić – Real Madrid (£40.3m)

Expenditures – £40.3m

All in this, in one day. One thing is for certain with Chelsea – there is never a dull day with this club…
