Chelsea had their third training session in Japan today, and some part of the session was open to the fans to watch. From the bibs they were wearing and the groups they were training with, we can learn a lot about what to expect from tomorrow’s game in pre-season.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out the match preview written by Terry Sazio.

First of all, the Chelsea squad trained in two separate teams, with one coming after the other. Hence, it is expected that tomorrow, we will play a separate side in each half of the game, just like how we have done for the preview two games in pre-season.

Interestingly, Ngolo Kante played in a much deeper role today, behind Drinkwater and Kovacic, something which Maurizio Sarri disagreed with.

However, Kante may not play tomorrow due to his lack of fitness after his knee injury at the end of last season, and this is why he went on to do individual training after the team session today.

Christian Pulisic, who joined up with the squad two days ago, trained on the left hand side, with Kenedy on the opposite wing.

This could suggest that Lampard may not be as keen on the crosses, but in fact for the wingers to cut inside and to shoot as much as possible, hence having the right-footed player on the left hand side and vice-versa.

Barkley played in the number 10 role inbetween the two wingers, with Giroud leading from the front.

Tammy Abraham may not be involved tomorrow after being taken out of the first training session today due to illness.

Expected lineups based off the bibs and the training session:

First half: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Christensen, Emerson; Kante, Kovacic; Kenedy, Barkley, Pulisic; Giroud.

Second half: Caballero; Zappacosta, Luiz, Tomori, Alonso; Bakayoko, Jorginho; Pedro, Mount, Palmer; Batshuayi.

Formation looks to be 4-2-3-1.
