Multiple reports have broken in the last few days that Everton are interested in Chelsea duo Fikayo Tomori and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Sky Sports have today claimed that Fikayo Tomori may well be on his way to Everton. The Toffee’s first choice was fellow Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma, who they had on loan last season. However, with the Frenchman set to remain in London this season after impressing new Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, Everton have turned to his teammate Tomori.
The England U-21 international impressed last season on loan with Derby County and has featured fairly regularly in Chelsea’s pre-season campaign. David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma are all ahead of the Englishman in the pecking order and as a result he may be allowed to depart the club. Details have not yet been released, however we would expect any deal to be a loan rather than a permanent switch.
Multiple rumours have suggested that Everton are also in for midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. It is believed that Frank Lampard has decided that the Frenchman is surplus to requirements after failing to impress in pre-season. Bakayoko, who Chelsea signed from Monaco in a £40M deal two years ago, spent last season on loan at AC Milan. Sky Sports recently reported that Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is close to completing a £28M switch to PSG and as a result rumours have begun circulating regarding his replacement – with Bakayoko being touted as an option. Again, details of this move are still just rumoured but it’s believed that Chelsea will try to offload Bakayoko permanently and look to recoup the majority of their £40M investment in the player.
