Is the charismatic Brazilian about to move across the capital?
It’s now being reported that Luiz did not refuse to train. But he did not train with the Chelsea first team today following a series of fall-outs. He wants a move to Arsenal and Chelsea are open to letting him go.
In news that has come completely out of nowhere, it’s being reported that David Luiz has refused to train with Chelsea’s first-team as he looks to push through a controversial move to London rivals Arsenal before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The 32-year-old has made 105 appearances for The Blues in his second spell at Stamford Bridge since returning to the club from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016 but is now rumoured to want to swap west London for North London ahead of the new season, which starts in just two days time.
According to L’Equipe, Luiz has been in advanced talks to leave Chelsea and it’s understood the Brazilian’s departure has become a real possibility in the last few hours.
The report claims that Arsenal, whose coach Unai Emery worked with Luiz at Paris Saint-Germain, have submitted a ‘firm offer’ for Luiz and the experienced centre-back has refused to show up at Chelsea’s Cobham training base as the club attempt to block his exit.
Luiz only signed a brand new, two-year deal with the club back in May, but has made it clear he wants to go following a series of fall-outs over the past week. With this in mind, The Chelsea Echo understands that the players haven’t been aware of any fallouts involving Luiz over the last week.
Last month, Luiz claimed he had been impressed by Frank Lampard’s start since his former team-mate took over the reins from Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
“It’s great to see him here. He’s someone who knows what it means to be at Chelsea and understands the DNA of this club. We are working well so far, everyone is getting along and the sessions have been great.”
Kurt Zouma partnered Andreas Christensen for Chelsea’s final pre-season friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend and it seems Lampard will now put his faith in the pair for the first Premier League game of the season against Manchester United this coming Sunday.
