As we know Chelsea will play Liverpool on Wednesday night to contest the European Super Cup having both been successful in European competitions last season.

This article will take you back to 1998 when Chelsea played Real Madrid in Monaco for the European Super Cup. Real Madrid were European Champions and Chelsea had won the Cup Winners Cup the season before beating Stuttgart 1-0 in Stockholm.

Despite having a very good team Chelsea went into the game against Real Madrid as the underdog, similar to what we’ll encounter facing Liverpool.
