In what is brilliant news for Blues fans Frank Lampard has confirmed that he expects trio Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James and Antonio Rudiger to return to the match-day squad after the international break.
Lampard described Hudson-Odoi as looking ‘bright and sharp’ in training as his recovery from a ruptured Achilles injury reaches its final stages. Despite this, the manager all but confirmed he is not yet ready to return on the pitch, saying; ‘We’re in a zone now where it’s about protecting him, getting conditioned and fitness’
During the press conference Frank Lampard said that the international break ‘comes at a good time for us on those terms [Rudiger and Hudson-Odoi injuries] and with Reece James’. All three players are expected to be back in contention in around 2-3 weeks, with the international break allowing them to focus solely on recovery whilst other squad members are away.
Chelsea have yet to pick up a win under new boss Frank Lampard but the return of three potential key-starters could provide a spark of life and quality for the season ahead. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is still a while away from fitness, but could return to training in around 4-6 weeks.
N’golo Kantè could miss the Norwich clash and is set to have his fitness assessed last-minute, having carried an injury all week through training.
Chelsea face Norwich on Saturday 24th August before returning to The Bridge a week later to take on Sheffield Untied. The international break will then commence, with The Blues returning to action on the 14th September against Wolves.
Excited for the returns of Callum, Antonio and Reece? Do they all start? Let us know! @TheChelseaEcho
