Tiemoue Bakayoko is set to go back to AS Monaco on loan from Chelsea FC after the French midfielder failed to impress Lampard during preseason.
This has been confirmed by Oleg Petrov, Vice President of AS Monaco while introducing two new players for the team.
“We have been waiting for this arrival for a long time. We know him well. He is very strong and has great physical qualities. He knows the coach, the club and the championship, there will be no worries for his adaptation, nor surprise”, Mr. Petrov said while talking to the reporters about the transfer window.
It appears Bakayoko is trying to convey the same message on his social media account.
Having arrived at London for the 2017-18 season after impressing with AS Monaco during the 2016-17 season, the midfielder never lived up to his potential thanks to the injuries he often had to suffer through. Add that to the hardship of settling-in in an intense league like Premier League, Bakayoko needed something extraordinary to shine.
After Antonio Conte was shown the door, Bakayoko wasn’t in Maurizio Sarri’s plans right from the beginning. He was therefore sent on a loan to AC Milan. While his performances with the Rossoneri got better towards the end of the season and earned some plaudits, ultimately he fell out with the coach Gennaro Gattuso and came back to London for preseason. Interestingly, Gattuso is not the coach of AC Milan anymore.
Though initially he seemed to be linked with a return to the Reds & Blacks after Gattuso’s departure, funnily enough Milan couldn’t afford him as a permanent signing.
A move to his old club AS Monaco might be just what the midfielder needed to reignite his career and with an option to buy him for about €35m, this could be a win-win for all the parties involved.
