By Emma Hartley
Tammy Abraham’s brace ensured that Chelsea got a point at Stamford Bridge against newly promoted side Sheffield United.
KEPA ARRIZABALAGA – 6
The Chelsea goalkeeper didn’t necessarily have too much to do in today’s game however, he made a good save in the second half and there was nothing much he could have done to stop the two goals that went in.
CESAR AZPILICUETA – 6
The defender didn’t have his best performance today, he still looks very shaky and unconfident at times which is clear within his mistakes. He swung in a sharp cross for Tammy Abraham’s first goal and he nearly set up Abraham with a third goal to nearly secure a hattrick despite this he wasn’t quite the same ‘Dave’ as we’ve known recently.
FIKAYO TOMORI – 7
The youngster stepped up to the mark today as he was given the chance to start by Frank Lampard. He seemed relatively relaxed and he was very composed on the ball. Overall Sheffield United caused the defence a bit of trouble today but Tomori seemed to cope with it quite well.
KURT ZOUMA – 6
Zouma unluckily scored an own goal for the newly promoted visitors today which led to Chelsea only securing the point but, despite this he was much improved upon recent games. He especially made good movement eighty-three minutes in as he met Mason Mount’s corner and nearly put in a header in the back of the net. Overall, he was relatively strong in defence and got into some good spaces to try and make more opportunities for the Blues.
EMERSON PALMIERI – 7
Palmieri had another strong performance for the Blues today and was very aware and alert of what was going on around him. The twenty-five-year-old ensured that he kept the left-wing covered and he didn’t seem to struggle too much. Overall a very confident performance displayed once again.
MATEO KOVACIC – 8
Kovacic contributed very well to the Chelsea team today and especially helped the defence out. Unfortunately, the Croatian never managed to seize the opportunity of scoring a goal in the first half when he had the chance however, he was very fluent when he had the ball and made confident moves without hesitation.
JORGINHO – 8
As well as a strong performance from Kovacic in midfield Jorginho was also really good today. The defensive midfield did not let the worry of Kante being missing affect their confidence and they were solid. He helped towards Abraham’s second goal and he didn’t let Sheffield United pressurise him in any way. He helped players out around him as well as focusing on his own play and making good impactful moves.
ROSS BARKLEY – 4
Barkley looked promising at the start of the game especially seven minutes in. He had some nice link-up play with Azpilicueta which nearly led to him scoring a header but despite this, he didn’t do too much else in the game. He later got substituted and replaced by Willian sixty minutes in.
CHRISTIAN PULISIC – 6
Pulisic was very alert during the game and tried hard to help out his Chelsea teammates. He didn’t do too much in the end however he is showing promising signs in his role.
TAMMY ABRAHAM – 10
The Chelsea youngster had another superb performance today. He was very impressive against Norwich City last weekend as he scored two goals and he did exactly the same again today. The youngster’s brace was impressive and he nearly scored a hattrick. The 21-year-old was alert and made the most of every opportunity he got. He got on the end of some great balls and made runs behind the Sheffield United defence whenever he could to try and catch them out. He made an impact from start to finish.
MASON MOUNT -6
Mount wasn’t as impressive today as he has been in recent games, he appeared to be pushed to the limits and struggling at points however, he did make appropriate moves and his passes were good.
WILLIAN – 4
Willian didn’t really do too much when he came on sixty minutes into the game and he got tested by Sheffield United.
BILLY GILMOUR- 7
Gilmour had a positive impact when he came on. The youngster didn’t have much time on the field but he had a very good debut and it is very exciting to see what he can do. The 18-year-old youngster was confident and made some good runs.
MICHY BATSHUAYI – 4
Michy also didn’t have much time on the field however he made no direct impact when he did come on.
