After Chelsea’s impressive victory against Grimsby, the youngsters certainly got their minutes and some had some excellent performances. Check out the full player ratings here:
Caballero – 7
Average standard performance. Wasn’t tested at all, and couldn’t do anything about their goal.
Alonso – 7
Again, like Caballero, didn’t do much wrong and was a decent performance. Against a team of Grimsby Town’s standard, maybe he could have shown more of a threat attacking wise.
Zouma – 8
Although he was at fault for the goal conceded, the rest of the performance was great with him making important tackles and being a leader on the pitch. Great to see him get his fifth goal for the club too.
Guehi – 8
At times he looked a bit cautious to play forward, but that is certainly expected making his debut at the age of 19. Again, didn’t make any mistake at the back and was comfortable on the ball. Debut to remember for him.
Reece James – 9
Outstanding performance from the fullback. Got twp brilliant assists after a wonderful trivela cross for Zouma’s goal, and also scored a lovely finesse from the edge of the box. A really good performance devensively too, with his strength really being shown today.
Barkley – 7.5
He opened the scoring inside four minutes after a great run, but other than that he did not impact the game too much. Definetely had much more confidence today when on the ball, but sometimes was too slow to release it and could’ve played Pulisic in for a 1v1.
Gilmour – 9.5
The only reason Gilmour hasn’t got a 10, is because I don’t give 10’s. An absolutely brilliant performance from the midfielder, and Chelsea fans’ nickname for the Scottishman ‘The Scottish Iniesta’ certainly was shown today. Played in the regista role, and looked so comfortable in tight areas, probably on par with one of Jorginho’s best performances, even though it was against Grimsby Town. A night to remember for the young lad.
Pedro – 7
His first game since returning back from his injury, and couldn’t create much today, but he did his job both defensively and offensively. However, it certainly does look like he is not in the top 2 or 3 wingers in Frank’s mind.
Pulisic – 8
Picked up a nice assist, and probably should have scored once or twice. Looked comfortable when running past players and putting crosses in, and now needs to work on building on this strong performance for some consistency.
Hudson-Odoi – 8
Certainly looked rusty today with his first professional game after being out for four months, but after signing the deal you could see how much that goal meant to him. He showed his sparks, and hopefully he returns to his best soon.
Batshuayi – 8.5
Scored two goals today, and both were extremely clinical finishes, and his status as the best finisher at the club certainly has been provided with some more evidence today. He will be looking to challenge Abraham for the number 9 spot, and hopefully we can see even more competition when Giroud returns.
Anjorin & Maatsen
I’m not going to give a rating because both players only got twenty minutes, however both shwoed extremely bright sparks. Anjorin drove forward extremely well with the ball, Loftus-Cheek style, and probably could have got a goal. Maatsen easily ran down the wings, and his pace helped with the tempo of the game. Two youngsters definetely to look out for in the future.
