After securing a place in the Knockout stages of the champions league, Chelsea are back in action and will host the cherries, Bournemouth. In recent times, Bournemouth have been Chelsea’s boogey team. So by no means this game will be a walk in the park for the blues. Chelsea are through a rough patch, as they’ve lost 3 of their last 4 premier league games. It’s a must win for the blues, as the race for top 4 is getting intense. Manchester United and Tottenham have taken advantage of the blues as they’ve dropped points in recent games. With a lot of big games upcoming in December, it is important for the blues to get back to winning ways. Lampard made a couple of changes to the team, Kovacic dropped to the bench. Mason mount came back into the starting 11. It was important to bench Kovacic because he needs to be rested. Rudiger makes his 3rd start of the season.
The game kicked off, Bournemouth had us underway. The first real chance of the game fell to Fraser In the opening minutes but it was aimed straight at Kepa. The game flowed on and Chelsea yet again did not offer any threat going forward. It was just sideways backwards sideways backwards. Give full credit to Bournemouth, they held shape very well. Chelsea found it very hard to through them. Even though Chelsea had to rest Kovacic, we definitely missed his presence. Chelsea’s best chance came in the dying minutes of the first half. Willian whipped the ball and Tammy headed it just over the bar. Other than that Chelsea looked very lacklustre. The half time whistle blew and it was 0-0. Chelsea needed something in special the second half to break through this stubborn Bournemouth defence. The second half kicked off and the fans wanted to see a reaction from the team after a poor first half. Chelsea’s best chance off the game fell to Emerson, Azpilicuettas header fell to the Italian, but he failed to covert his chance as he aimed it straight at the keeper. The second half was the same as the first half, Chelsea had all the possession but failed to create any chances. Frank Lampard made some brave substitutions, as he took Willian pulisic and Jorginho but they didn’t change the game either. There was a weird feeling around the ground that Bournemouth would take the lead. And they did, Gosling scored from a corner. It was ruled out for offside. It was then checked by VAR, and the goal was given and rightly so. Bournemouth players burst into celebrations as they took the lead. And they deserved it. Chelsea showed enthusiasm when they went 1-0 down. There was more urgency. Kovacic took a shot from distance and it saved by the keeper. The full time whistle blew and Chelsea lost another game at home. Bournemouth deserved the three points. Chelsea were very poor, the players failed to turn up. Chelsea play Tottenham away next week and the game will not be easy be easy. If Chelsea suffer another defeat next week, their top 4 place is in jeopardy.
