Chelsea had to make another trip to North London as they took on The Gunners, Arsenal. Both teams who have been in a poor form went head to head. Arsenal recently appointed Mikel Arteta as their manager. It was his first home game as Arsenal manager. Frank Lampard has had a couple of ups and downs as Chelsea manager in the past 2 months. After beating Spurs away from home, Chelsea went on to lose their following home game against Southampton. Lampard received a lot of criticism for it and now was chance to prove the doubters wrong once again, as they take on Arsenal. Lampard went with same formation that beat spurs, but made a couple of changes. Emerson started, and Kovacic was back in the lineup as he missed the Southampton game due to suspension.
The game was underway and the Chelsea fans were in fine voice. The opening 15 minutes Arsenal were all over Chelsea, as they were fiercely pressing the Chelsea team. The first real chance fell to mason mount as his shot was stopped by Leno. A few minutes later Arsenal got their and deservedly so, Ozils corner was flicked on by Chambers at the near post and Aubameyang was there in the 6 yard box to head the ball past Kepa. Emerson was caught napping and it cost Chelsea as Arsenal took the lead in the London derby. After the goal, arsenal continued to dominate Chelsea. This forced Frank Lampard to make a change as brought Jorginho on for Emerson as Chelsea struggled massively in midfield without the Italian. Jorginho gave Chelsea greater control in midfield but defensively arsenal were solid and it made it hard to break them down. We approached half time and Chelsea found themselves a goal behind at the Emirates. Chelsea were very poor in the first half but they found their rhythm towards end of the half. It was clear that Chelsea needed to step up massively in the second half in order to get any type of result from the game.
The second half was underway, and Chelsea started the second half in fine fashion. Kante came very close to get Chelsea level but his shot was just wide as Leno misplaced his pass. David Luiz came to Arsenals rescue as he made a terrific block to deny Tammy Abraham. Lampard made a weird substitution as brought on youngster Tariq Lamptey for Tomori. It was his first senior appearance for the blues and he absolutely bossed it. Joe willock had the chance to wrap the game up but his shot was inches away. Straight down the other end Chelsea were awarded a free kick. Mason Mount whipped the ball in and it went over everyone, Leno misjudged the ball and fell straight into the path of Jorginho and he tapped it in to bring the blues level in the London Derby. A horrible mistake by Leno and Chelsea were right back in it. The gunners then started moving forward in search of a win end but were caught out on the break as Willian cut the ball back to Tammy Abraham and tucked his chance away brilliantly and the he put the ball through Lenos legs. The scenes in the away end were absolutely mental as Chelsea for the first time this season came from behind. Arsenal were close to getting an equaliser but Lucas torriera was unfortunate to not hit the target. The full time whistle blew and Chelsea came out winners, as Arteta suffered his first defeat as Arsenal manager. He will regret the chances that his team missed, but Chelsea deserve full credit for the way they turned up in the second half. Lampard and players came down the away end and started celebrating with the fans.It was a brilliant way for the blues to end the year in such high fashion.
