Newcastle are ready to host the boys in blue at St James Park. Newcastle have been Chelsea’s boogey team for the last couple of years and they love to spoil Chelsea’s day, especially at home soil. Both teams met early on in the season at Stamford bridge where Chelsea won the game 1-0 as Alonso scored to secure the 3 points for the blues. Chelsea are coming back off a strong win, as they defeated Burnley 3-0. Although for Newcastle, they have not won in their last 4 premier league games. But by no means this will be a easy game for the Blues. The team-sheet has been released and Frank Lampard stuck with the same lineup that beat Burnley. The only change was that Frenchmen Ngolo Kante replaces Ross Barkley. Kovacic has been left out on the bench again. It’s a very a strong lineup and hopefully Chelsea get the 3 points in order to extend their lead over Tottenham and Manchester United as the race for top 4 continues.
We are underway at St James park, and as usual the Chelsea fans were in fine voice. The game was stopped on the 8th minute mark as Jetro Williams suffered an injury after colliding with Hudson odoi. Jetro Williams was substituted and the game was underway. Mason Mount pounced on Newcastle’s mistake, right on the edge of the box as he whipped the ball in but no one was at the receiving end off the cross. Newcastle suffered another injury as Issac Hayden dropped to the floor. The game was underway and Newcastle were inches away from breaking the deadlock as Joelintons header hit the bar. It was huge let off for the blues. Chelsea were really struggling to break Newcastle down, Reece James was the most creative player on the pitch for the blues. Newcastle were awarded a free kick in the 37th minute, and they failed to make it count as Fernandez did not time his jump and managed to head the ball over the ball. We were getting close to half time as 5 minutes were added. The half time whistle and it was 0-0. Both teams failed to break the deadlock and it was a very dull first half. Chelsea need to improve in the second half.
The second half kicked off and Willian had a great chance to put the blues in front but his effort was well wide. Chelsea were really lacking cutting edge today and it was summed up when Azpilicueta had a shot from distance as it was straight in the hands of the keeper. There was no sign of improvement from the blues in the second half and substitutions had to be made. Ross Barkley came on for Mason mount who had a very poor game today. Reece James suffered an injury as he was fouled. It seemed like he ran it off and would be able to continue. Tammy came close to scoring but put the ball wide as it was a really tight angle. Reece James went down again and was not able to continue. Emerson came on for the Englishmen who had a very good game. Chelsea’s best opportunity of the game fell to Tammy Abraham who’s shot was was cleared off the line by Matt Ritchie. That was Abraham’s last involvement as Michy was brought on. Emerson almost scored a screamer from 25 yards as his effort was deflected. 4 minutes were added and Newcastle were awarded a late corner. The initial corner was nodded away but Saint-Maximin put a delightful ball into the 6 yard box and Hayden was there to head the ball inside the back of the net. It was sucker punch for Chelsea. The full time whistle blew and Chelsea suffered another defeat as they conceded in the last seconds of the game. Chelsea failed to capitalise on their chances and paid the price right in the end. A devastating day for the blues.
