After Saturday’s loss to Sheffield United, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will be looking for his side to bounce back as they welcome already-relegated Norwich City this evening.
Norwich’s relegation was confirmed on the same day Chelsea lost 3-0 to Chris Wilder’s side at Bramall Lane. The Canaries suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to West Ham United as Michael Antonio scored four goals at Carrow Road.
With the relegation fight still ongoing with two more clubs aiming to stay in the division, but, there is another race that looks like it will be decided on the final day of the season. Following Manchester City’s European ban being lifted yesterday, the race for a Champions League place can only be decided by finishing in the top four.
Chelsea currently hold third after Leicester City were heavily beaten by relegation threatened Bournemouth on Sunday. Also, Manchester United weren’t able to capitalise on their rivals defeats as Southampton grabbed a last minute equaliser last night which keeps United in fifth spot.
However, another poor result against the bottom of the league will leave Chelsea vulnerable to those teams behind them with two difficult games to play against champions Liverpool and Europe chasing Wolves.
Kepa, James, Christensen, Zouma, Azpilicueta, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Giroud, Pulisic
With very little chances created on the weekend, Lampard may make a handle of changes for tonight’s fixture. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi will be restored to the XI, and Olivier Giroud will replace Tammy Abraham who looked off the pace at Bramall Lane.
Chelsea need a win to keep their Champions League dreams alive and they couldn’t have hoped for a fixture quite like this one. Norwich City will be planning for life in the Championship next season, and so the Blues should be able to bounce back with a win tonight.
Predicted Result: Chelsea 3-0 Norwich City
