Following one of the best results of Chelsea’s season in the FA Cup, attention now turns back to Chelsea’s league campaign as Frank Lampard aims to guide his side to a top-four finish.
Their opposition, Liverpool, have been underwhelming since the Premier League resumption, but they will finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy for the very first time tonight.
So far there have been three meetings between the two sides this season with Liverpool edging the head-to-head 2-1. However, the last time these two teams met was in the FA Cup where Chelsea advanced with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. It certainly won’t be easy but Chelsea are now within one win away from playing Champions League football next season.
Kepa, James, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Rudiger, Alonso, Kovacic, Jorginho, Willian, Giroud, Pulisic
Lampard will select the same team that featured in the FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester United, but with one change, Christian Pulisic coming into the XI replacing Mason Mount. The England international had one of his best games against United, however, Lampard will welcome Pulisic back as he has been the blues best player since the resumption.
With N’Golo Kante having already suffered from the intensive restart schedule, Lampard will be all too aware of the problems associated with overusing certain players. The Formation will stay the same against the champions as the 3-4-3 formation complemented all areas of the pitch where Chelsea were deservedly winners in the semi-final against United.
Predicted Result: Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea
Klopp will field a strong XI and I can see them scoring in tonight’s fixture. Even though having three centre-halves will restrain Liverpool’s attacks, I can see Sadio Mane scoring a couple in tonight’s fixture. He has been one of the champion’s best players in their title-winning campaign and will be up there in contention for the best player in the Premier League this season.
I can see the blues scoring in this match, they have shown that they can cause the opposition team problems and if Olivier Giroud can continue his recent scoring form, Chelsea have a chance of winning.
Granted, Liverpool has little to play for, but, this game will be full of intensity from start to finish.
