After signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech ahead of the new season, Chelsea aren’t stopping there as they continue their busy summer by closing in on a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen. A deal for the 21-year-old will surpass the fees paid for Werner and Ziyech.
According to SportBild and the Guardian, Chelsea will pay an initial €80m for the German. Furthermore, add-ons could see the value of the Havertz transfer rise to €100m eventually.
The report from Germany claims €10m of the bonuses are ‘as good as guaranteed’. Havertz will become the most expensive player in Chelsea’s history, surpassing the €80m paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga two years ago.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will have plenty of attacking options ahead of next season. With the new signings, along with Havertz, the likes of Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi will give the blues boss a selection headache. But, a good one to have for next season.
Besides acquiring Havertz, Chelsea are very much in the market for defensive reinforcements and are expected to sign Thiago Silva after the 35-year-old became a free agent following his final appearance for PSG in the Champions League final last night.
