Chelsea F.C. are making up for lost time in the transfer market by making strengthening Frank Lampard’s side ahead of next season.
Blues defender Antonio Rudiger says the new arrivals will force the first-team squad to step up their game.
Competition for places is a good motive for player’s who underperformed last season. So far, Lampard has brought in Malang Sarr, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva – who was announced earlier today.
German superstar Kai Havertz is expected to the be next acquisition made by the blues in the upcoming days.
Rudiger admits with the clubs ambition in the transfer market, himself and his teammates have to be alert and make manager Frank Lampard notice their determination in training.
“I am always happy to see new faces in the team,” Rudiger told Transfermarkt.
“After the transfer ban last summer, we were of course hoping to get some real reinforcements. With Hakim, I immediately had a good feeling and my relation to and opinion about Timo is already known.
“With such names, the club is also sending a clear message to the existing personnel that they want to take another step forward in the overall development. I think that is great!”
Rudiger himself will be under pressure to perform following the recent arrival of veteran Thiago Silva. Perhaps the German defender can partner the 35-year-old next season?
