Chelsea have opened talks to sign their Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy this summer.
Since the resumption of the Premier League at the end of last season, it was clear that the blues were in desperate need of an upgrade to their current number one, Kepa.
At 28, Mendy could prove to be a solidified acquisition to Frank Lampard’s side.
Chelsea’s current number one, Kepa, has been a major weak link this season and hasn’t shown manager Lampard any sign that he can remain the clubs goalkeeper moving forward. Therefore, the club will be weighing up their options to replace the worlds most expensive keeper.
According to Football Insider, the Rennes shot stopper is valued at £45 million, but, Chelsea are willing to offer just £22 million instead.
It will be interesting to see if the Blues can agree on a fee with the French outfit in the coming weeks, and we all know Marina Granovskaia’s remarkable negotiations she has pulled off so far in this window.
Chelsea have been outstanding in the transfer market so far signing Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and yesterday the Blues announced the signing of Thiago Silva.
It will be interesting to see if the Blues can sign Mendy before the Premier League season begins, but, Chelsea will have to convince the player and Rennes with a respectful offer.
