Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu has joined Sheffield United on loan for the 20/21 season.

The Welsh international, who can feature in a variety of positions, joins Chris Wilder’s side for the upcoming season following a loan season at RB Leipzig.

Ampadu was one of three signings made by the Blades after they completed the double signing of Derby County full-backs Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe.

Chris Wilder told United’s website: “Ethan is an outstanding young player for Chelsea, and we’ve worked really hard to get his signature for the season.

“We need to thank Frank Lampard and the people at Chelsea for helping make this happen. We’ve got a good relationship with them and they know we’re going to take good care of him.

“It’s an important season for Ethan and playing in the Premier League for us is a good move for everyone. He brings a lot of qualities to the group and he’s someone we’ve tracked for two or three seasons.”

The 19-year-old made just three Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig last season as Julien Nagelsmann’s side reached the Champions League semi-final.

Frank Lampard and Chelsea will hope that Ampadu has a successful loan spell at Sheffield United where he can develop and get valuable experience so that he can feature for the Blues the following season.
