Chelsea have announced the 20/21 shirt numbers for the clubs new signings along with some alterations to the current squad.
The Blues have been busy in the transfer market after making up for lost time because of a transfer ban for previous windows. Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva are stellar names who have made the move to Stamford Bridge this summer, with the Edouard Mendy deal close to completion.
Chelsea also signed Xavier Mbuyamba and Malang Sarr this window and both have been added to the squad. Dutch defender Mbuyamba has been placed in the Blues under-23 squad with Sarr being sent out on loan for the upcoming season. So far a deal hasn’t been sanctioned for the former Nice defender.
For the players who will feature this season, veteran defender Silva has taken the No.6 shirt, previously worn by Danny Drinkwater who is set to leave the club. With Pedro already departed for Roma on a free transfer, Timo Werner takes the No.11 left vacant by the Spanish winger.
German international Kai Havertz has been gifted his preferred No.29 shirt after he asked defender Fikayo Tomori to grant him his squad number. Tomori has been given the No.14 shirt which used to belong to Tiemoue Bakayoko who has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan this summer.
Former Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech takes the No.22 shirt that has been left vacant by Christian Pulisic, who takes the No.10 following Willian’s departure to London rivals Arsenal.
Left-back Chilwell – who wore No.3 for previous club Leicester – has taken the No.21 shirt that used to belong to Italian full-back Davide Zappacosta, who won’t be part of Frank Lampard’s plans for next season.
