Chelsea are getting closer to the signing goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes.

Despite the clubs not yet reaching the deals conclusion, negotiations continue between both clubs.

According to the French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, the Ligue 1 star is ‘ready and waiting’ to fly to London after agreeing a five-year deal with the Blues.

But, respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano says that the deal for Mendy is done, despite Frank Lampard issuing he is ‘happy’ with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The French club want roughly £18 million to make the transfer happen.

If Mendy does sign, he could become the club’s no.1, as manager Frank Lampard wants significant competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kepa came under more criticism on Monday night after letting in saveable effort against Brighton in Chelsea’s Premier League opener.

If the deal is concluded before the weekend, Lampard might be tempted to throw in Mendy into his starting XI straight away as Chelsea host current Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday.
