Chilwell has been such an important asset to Leicester City’s success in the last 5 years, competing highly in the Premier league table to then winning a Premier League medal and competing in the Champions League. As well as bags of experience, Chelsea really have picked up one of the best English defenders in the game as he brings much needed pace and stamina into Chelsea’s defence, as well as the attacking threat.

Ben is some what a modern day Ashley Cole as he is at top of his game when defending one on-one’s and flying forward to supply crosses to the attackers in the box. Chilwell is also an England international now which means he’s bringing more experience into the blues back line which is definitely needed after last years defensive display.

Chilwell’s defensive capabilities against Spain

He gets into good positions and his body shape makes it difficult for the attacker to dribble past him. This was quite prominent during the UEFA Nations League game against Spain, where Jonny Castro and Iago Aspas both struggled to make headway against Chilwell.

The 23-year-old has featured once for Chelsea so far, a short cameo in the Carabao Cup where he managed to get an assist in the 6-0 thumping at home to Barnsley. For now, it is about getting Chilwell match fit in which he is then able to feature from the start as yesterday’s 3-3 draw at West Brom highlighted why the left-back was brought in, to take the starting spot of Marcos Alonso.

The England full back will no doubt be a creative, exciting and passionate player for Chelsea which will definitely benefit them challenging in Europe and for the English Trophy this year. Lastly, I feel Ben has joined Chelsea on a big transfer price of £50 million, but, I have no doubts he will live up to the price tag and be a massive part of Chelsea’s success in the future.
