For tonight’s Carabao Cup match, Frank Lampard might be tempted to change formation as he often does to accommodate three centre backs in his side. With Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech still missing through injury, Lampard can then play Timo Werner as an inside forward from the left hand side, with Callum Hudson-Odoi on the other flank. Werner is still seeking his first goal in a Chelsea shirt and what better way to get off the mark against London rivals Spurs.
Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy will start and a debut for the new goalkeeper. Kai Havertz will begin this game from the bench in my opinion as the fixtures pile up, Lampard won’t want to burn out the German international. Olivier Giroud will be given his first start this season. His last game against Spurs the Frenchman scored a well taken volley at Stamford Bridge. Hopefully he manages to repeat that tonight!
All that matters is the result and how we play. The Chelsea boss was heavily critical of his side constantly making mistakes in which lead to goals for the opposing team. However, this formation will rectify that and having veteran Thiago Silva alongside Kurtz Zouma and Cesar Azpilicueta, Spurs will find it hard to break their opponents down.
